What Am I Willing To Lay Down?

It’s not about masks, vaccines, mandates, government takeovers, my rights, the end times, misinformation, papers, or even my opinion, the real issue, and the question I must ask myself as a believer must be, “What does this say about my heart and where it truly is? What am I willing to lay down?"

We Are Fighting For Each Other

“…It’s the idea, that we all have value. You and me. What we are fighting for, in the end…we’re fighting to each other.”

What Has Happened To Us

We really could use Alex Trebek and Fred Rogers more than ever. I watched the news today, and I am beyond speechless. Story after story after story shows a country and people I don’t even know anymore. I sit watching, shaking my head, and simply asking the question – what happened to us as a country, and what happened to us as a people?

Politics, Then Faith

Today is the day. The crescendo to the march we have all be on for many months and years; the election now is finally upon us. Everyone says that this is the election of our lifetime. That the direction that is chosen will either take us down paths of riches, freedom, and blessings, or ultimate destruction. Both sides see the other as the problem, quick to cast stones at whoever does not believe, think, and vote as they do, and in that simple step, politics, not faith, takes the wheel.

We The People, Last Night's Real Losers

Last night was the first presidential debate, and I use the term “Debate” loosely. This morning there are many discussions of who won and who lost, but the sad truth is, “We the people” are the real losers in this contest.

Leaders, Please Learn From My Elementary Kids!

Dear Mrs. Pelosi, Mr. Trump, and the rest of the children on Capital Hill – grow up!!!

Charles Mickles, Elementary Principal, Written Winter, 2020

This week has been the final straw. I have watched in disgust, year after year, at the totally unkind and dishonoring behavior from those who call themselves our leaders, and quite frankly, I’ve had all I can take. This week my sister, in a Facebook comment, hit the nail on the head:

It Really Is A Wonderful Life, pt. 2

“No man is a failure who has friends."

This Christmas has been different than most we have had recently – in fact this year was a little different in general. Because we were not going out of town, we were determined to do some things that we had never done before, and when I heard that the Franklin Theater was showing two of my favorite Christmas movies – White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life – I knew I had to take my children.

Hustle and Bustle

“Be still and know that I am God…” – Psalm 46:10

Christmas is a wonderful time of year – but it is also very hectic. On top of the normal busy schedule that everyone seems to keep these days, more is added in the months around this holiday. People pack event after event into an already overcrowded and bursting schedule. Christmas “requires” so much. As people rush from thing to thing, they become stressed, frazzled, and overwhelmed.

You are a Ring-bearer

"I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened" - Frodo Baggins

One of my favorite movies series is the Lord of the Rings. So much beauty, so much imagery, and so many messages. When all seems hopeless; when the problem looks to great; some choose to stand and fight for the good. No hero in this story is so great, and yet so small, as young Frodo Baggins.

I would have despaired...

"No matter how bad it is, that's not the end of the story...Sometimes we get mired in the moment we are in and forget there is more to come...we must trust God and wait." - Pastor John Yancey

"Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much"

"A joyful heart is a good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." - Proverbs 17:22

Life! Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. Days that never seem to end. Problems that just seem to pile higher and higher. So many things that compete for our attention every minute. The older we get, the more serious things seem. As we get knocked around a little by life, the days, more often than not, can seem a little more discouraging and exhausting. Daily heartaches can suck our strength, and attacks that seem to come from all sides can discourage and beat us down.

Feather-dusters & The Legacy of a Friend

"He was a servant's servant." - Bro. Al Henson

Today was a day of rejoicing and sorrow. A day that took life, and put some things in perspective. A day that made you stop and consider what you would leave behind, and what in this world was really important. It was a day of celebration, and a day of sadness, as we said goodbye to a faithful servant and friend.

Free Popcorn!

The city is surrounded! There seems to be no hope and no escape! The God you have trusted in is no where to be seen. What is a prophet to do?
